Exploring the Artistry of Book Sculptures by Ana Maria Caballero

If you’re a lover of design and art, you’re in for a treat with the captivating book sculptures of Ana Maria Caballero. This world-renowned poet and artist has taken the traditional book and transformed it into a striking form of visual art that goes beyond just words on a page. Her work reminds us of the beauty of books and the stories they hold, making a compelling case for their place in both literature and art.

The Magic of Book Sculptures

Ana Maria Caballero’s book sculptures breathe new life into the concept of the book. By blending literature with sculpture, she creates incredible pieces that invite you to explore the narratives within and around them. Each sculpture tells a story—a visual feast that encourages us to think about our relationship with books in a whole new way.

To bring her artistic visions to life, Caballero collaborates with Tocci MADE, a studio renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship and specialized printing techniques. Tocci MADE is known for their museum-quality work, so it’s no surprise that Caballero chose them to handle the production of her unique pieces. Their meticulous attention to detail ensures that every sculpture is not only stunning but also durable and true to her artistic intent.

A New Kind of Art Marketplace

This series proposes the book as a sculptural object and will see Caballero print eight different books, each as an edition of one, with a unique ISBN and the anatomy and structure of a traditional book.

The books in this series contain only one poem, printed 197 times in their pages. When taken as integers, the digits in 197 add up to 8, a number that represents abundance. The works in this series are stunning objects yet remain very authentically books, with a table of contents, an author page and a dedication, which is hand-signed and dedicated to its collector. Along with the physical book, a digital MP4 component shows a single page of the book endlessly turning while Caballero reads the text, accentuating the artist’s expansion of the ways poetry can be experienced, exhibited and transacted in the digital age.

Ana selected Tocci MADE to source the design, production, and final fulfillment of each book prior to each gallery showing. In an era dominated by screens, Caballero’s work and the craftsmanship of Tocci MADE serve as a reminder of the beauty of handmade art. Their collaboration champions traditional skills and brings awareness to the value of books beyond reading—celebrating them as timeless works of art.
